Village of Loami Breaks Ground on Major Improvements at Colburn Park

LOAMI, Ill. — The Village of Loami is proud to announce the groundbreaking of significant improvements at Colburn Park, made possible through funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant Program.

Village officials, employees, and project partners recently gathered at Colburn Park to celebrate the start of a project that will enhance recreation, accessibility, and outdoor opportunities for residents and visitors for years to come. Construction is scheduled to begin during the week of June 15, 2026.

The Colburn Park Improvement Project will include:

• A new 0.15-mile walking path
• Two lakeside picnic pavilions
• Rip-rap erosion control measures to protect the shoreline
• ADA-accessible parking improvements
• An ADA-accessible playground swing
• A new ADA-accessible fishing pier

"Our community deserves a clean, accessible park where residents of all ages and abilities can gather, enjoy the outdoors, and create memories with their families," said Mayor Steven Lambert. "These improvements are about investing in our people and ensuring Colburn Park remains a place that everyone can enjoy for generations to come."

The project marks the first phase of a broader vision for Colburn Park and reflects the Village's ongoing efforts to improve public spaces, increase accessibility, and preserve natural resources.

The Village of Loami extends its appreciation to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, local leaders, project partners, and community members whose support helped make this project possible.
